Everyone here brought an app.

Put yours on the table. Someone spends ten minutes with it and writes you a note about how it went.

It’s free. You earn your turn by trying other people’s apps.

What a note can look like

Why Potluck exists

Getting anyone to look at a side project is hard. You post it and it sinks. Friends say it looks great because they like you. Proper usability testing costs more than most side projects will ever make, so you end up guessing what to fix.

Everyone here has an app they want tried, so people take turns. Helping another maker earns you credits, and you spend those credits when you want your own app tested.

How a round works

You help

Try someone’s app

  1. Pick an app from the list.
  2. Follow the maker’s task for about 10 minutes.
  3. Write them a note about where you got stuck and what you expected.

+4 credits once they accept your note

You get help

Someone tries yours

  1. Add your app and write the task, like “sign up and make your first list”.
  2. Another maker follows it for about 10 minutes and answers your questions.
  3. Their note comes to you privately. If they skipped the task, you can flag it before they get credits.

5 credits for each review of your app

Two accepted reviews pay for your first one.

Questions people ask

Won’t people just write “nice app”?
They’re answering the questions you wrote, and they only get credits once you accept the review.
Who are the testers?
Other people building apps. They might not be your target customers, but they’re good at noticing where something is confusing.
Can anyone else read the feedback?
Only you and the person who wrote it. We’ll only look at it if there’s a dispute or someone reports abuse.
Do I have to pay?
No. You earn credits by trying other people’s apps and spend them on reviews of yours. There’s nothing to buy.

Bring what you’re building.

Half-finished is fine. While you wait for notes, you can try someone else’s app.
